Larp 101: The World » the Clans

Vampires are organized by lines of blood, based on their descent from one of the thirteen legendary Antediluvians, passed from sire to childe.  The clans that form the core membership of the Camarilla are:

  • Brujah.  Characterized by violent passion, the Brujah are historically scholars, but are known in the modern nights as rebels and warriors.  They Frenzy more easily than most vampires.  Clan Disciplines: Celerity, Potence, Presence
  • Malkavian.  Unpredictable and impossible to categorize, Clan Malkavian is characterized by madness; the blood of the clan carries the taint of insanity, and no member is untouched.  They run the gamut from violent lunatics to the seemingly normal, and may possess strange insights.  Clan Disciplines: Auspex, Dementation, Obfuscate
  • Nosferatu.   The Embrace twists the flesh of this clan into the form of hideous monsters.  Unable to interact with mortal society on a regular basis, they form a tight-knit society of their own, living underground and collecting information. Clan Disciplines: Animalism, Obfuscate, Potence
  • Toreador.  Clan Toreador are the ultimate aesthetes; they are driven by the pursuit of beauty, to the point that they may be mesmerized by it.  They travel among the highest levels of mortal high society.  Clan Disciplines: Auspex, Celerity, Presence
  • Tremere. The Tremere are a clan of sorcerers, who practice a form of blood magic they jealously guard from the other clans.  These warlocks are strictly organized in a hierarchy run from Vienna, and are often driven by the pursuit of mystical secrets. Clan Disciplines: Auspex, Dominate, Thaumaturgy
  • Ventrue. Clan Ventrue is the cornerstone of the Camarilla; they consider themselves the lordly rulers of the night.  They are leaders of vampiric society, and have a hand in mortal society, business and politics at the highest levels.  Their blood is so rarefied that they can only feed from select groups of mortals.  Clan Disciplines: Dominate, Fortitude, Presence

Two other groups are of significance to the Camarilla:

  • Gangrel.  Clan Gangrel was formerly part of the Camarilla; they formally left the sect a decade ago, but many individuals remain.  The Gangrel are loners and wanderers, valuing freedom above society and often more comfortable in the wilderness than in the city.  Their animalistic nature manifests itself in their bodies when they allow the Beast to overwhelm them.  Clan Disciplines: Animalism, Fortitude, Protean
  • Caitiff.  In these vampires, the blood runs thin, leaving them unconnected to their Sire’s Clan.  The Clanless are looked down upon by Kindred society, which generally considers them a rabble without a place among the proper vampires. Clan Disciplines: Varies (player’s choice).

Other clans exist, but are not represented in great numbers among the Camarilla.
