Larp 101: The Game » LARP Etiquette

That's it! We've reached the end of our Larp 101 pages. There's just a bit more that we'd like to go over.

There are a few rules of proper larp etiquette that we'd like to share with you. These are to be followed at all times. If you don't, the Storytellers will get involved in the situation and, if necessary, you may be asked to leave the game (at least).

  1. No Touching. You should never touch another player. At all. Ever. Some people prefer not to be touched; respect that. The general exception to this is a handshake as you meet another character for the first time.
  2. No Replica Weapons. The last thing we need is for someone to call the cops because they can't tell that the handgun your holding is made of plastic. Don't even use those silly bright orange handguns made for seven year olds. It's just easier to skip them entirely. This also holds true for replica swords, clubs, etc.
  3. No Alcohol. If you come to a game session drunk, you will be asked to leave. We'll let you come back, but if it becomes a habit, we'll ask you to leave the game.

Costumes

Costumes are permitted, even encouraged! They help people stay in-character and suspend disbelief. But, remember that we still need to arrive and depart from our gaming session in public and that we game in a university building. While a scantily clad vampire may be all fun on the silver screen, we'd rather not have to explain why a male player is wearing nothing but ass-less chaps!

Other than remaining decent, just about anything else goes. We've had characters who are costumed in full wedding gowns, others who only wear tuxedoes, some who insist on remaining cloaked, and even more who wear armor like chain mail. The more you add to your costume, the better it helps others understand that you're in character.

But, we realize that not everyone has the means or desire to go to such lengths. Even something as simple as a specific shirt or jacket would work. Maybe you add a hat to your normal wardrobe or wear specific forms of jewelry while in-character. Regardless of what it is, we hope that you'll take some time to work out exactly what it is that your character wears.
