Welcome to Carpe Noctem

Carpe Noctem is the online lair of the Vampire LARP of the Illini Roleplaying Network (a.k.a., the Metagamers). Here, the players and storytellers can administer and discuss the game, its plot, and its characters in between the live sessions. If you are a current player of the LARP, make sure you have a login name on the forums. If you don't, then you won't be able to administer your character sheet online nor will you be able to make any in-between-session requests of the storytellers.

If you are not a current player, we suggest taking some time to hunt around the web to find information about the various vampire clans that you can find in the Vampire: the Masquerade setting. If you're really gung-ho, then you can check out our character creation guide and rules. This is the all-but-essential guide to playing in our Vampire LARP. Once you know you want to play and you have a sense of what character you want to play, send a message to the storytellers and let them know that you want in. You will have to have a registered name on the forums to send this message.

For those of you visiting who may be playing with or aware of Brave New Midnight, we are not affiliated with them in any way. We have some players who sometimes play in BNM and we invite you to try both if you want more opportunities to LARP. But their game and our game use different rules and exist in different worlds, so don't expect actions taken in EotP to have bearing or influence on actions and events in our game.

Who can join this game?

We'd love to be able to say "anybody who wants to play is welcome," but we need to have some restrictions to keep a manageable size and focus. Since Carpe Noctem is an activity of the Illini Roleplaying Network, a Registered Student Organization of UIUC, participation is open to students of UIUC. University faculty and staff are also welcome.

If you want to play but don't fit one of those categories, the Storytellers will want to talk to you ahead of time to make sure that this game is appropriate for you. "Ahead of time" means "not on a game night," as we're too busy then. We are not accepting any new players who do not live in the Champaign-Urbana area. Alumni of the game may keep playing whether or not they still live here.

We usually welcome visiting observers, especially prospective players who want to check out the game before committing to it. If you want to watch, introduce yourself to the Storytellers and get an OOC (out-of-character) tag so players know not to react to your presence in character. Please do not disrupt the game or distract the players. If your presence becomes a problem you will be asked to leave.
